Since 2002, we have existed for the sustainable development of healthcare leaders and organizations through holistic thinking and people-centered management.

How do we perceive Organizations?

We have been always concerned about whether traditional methodologies help us look into all organizational aspects and understand the situation holistically. When it comes to growth and improving performance, healthcare organizations’ go-to-station is usually accreditation but seldom is its own people. It is assumed that accreditation improves performance but a lot of studies show that it is hardly the case. The way the accreditation process is being implemented is merely for short-term gains and that is why many healthcare organizations find themselves even more lost and underperforming after accreditation.

From our perspective, people are the main drivers of performance in the organization, they are the source of value, and they represent the roots of any organization. The challenge is in keeping them motivated during times of stability and change.

Organizations are Biosystems (Trees)

Just like trees, organizations can grow, get sick, and may die. They also interact with the external environment. GATES Tree Analogy© is as follows:

  • Roots are People: the invisible parts making the organization thrive or decay

  • Branches are Processes: created by people and out of which products and experiences arise

  • Leaves are Ideas: they stem from branches, some mature to produce products and some don’t

  • Flowers are Achievements: their beauty gives value and visibility to the organization

  • Fruits are Products: be it fully grown or not, this is what is visible and experienced by customers

Holistic yet People-Centered

In an organization, seven internal elements interact together: People, Process, Place, Provisions, Product, Promotion, and Purpose. The 7Ps model reduces the symptoms and drivers of fragmentation and leads to dynamic cohesion. In addition to these internal drivers, leaders should look at the external factors affecting the organization such as Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental (PESTLE) aspects. That way they will be able to form a macro image of the organization with people at its center as they are the source of value and mobilizers of resources.

Leadership Driven Model

Change requires people engagement, whether at the level of top management or on the front line. This engagement requires an understanding and application of the suitable leadership way(s) to meet the desired goals. Understanding leadership is one of the core principles of GATES 5Ds Loop Methodology©, and the appropriate use of leadership theories and practices is the key success factor to any change and organization.

Innovation & Sustainability

The sustainability of organizational performance stems from the organizational ability to re-invent itself and not be confined by structural and procedural limitations. The cost of not being relevant is much higher than that of failing in trying to solve problems in innovative ways. This is a key dimension that any healthcare organization leader has to keep in mind at any stage in the lifecycle of their organization.

We adopt Open Innovation, and as such we allow all our stakeholders to use our ideas and models in their work. We firmly believe in development by openness, sharing, and collaboration.

If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
